Cars being prepped for shipment to Barrett Jackson

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

A little about me

A little about me

I'm going to have a blast writing about these builds ! I can build these Barrett Jackson Saturday night cars but would rather write about them at this moment . Taking a lot of cool pictures of some very rare builds and always a lot of vetts ! Numerous rare cars sold Saturday night at Barrett Jackson for the last few years . Heck , We were out there in 05 , Tim,Mike and me , taking a rare green in color L88 , 69 i think ,last one built at the St. Louis plant to sell . It sold for $237.000 i believe .Were a little disappointed at the price but the market was down that year also . Will be adding content on a regular basis . I still love builden the cars , but tired of building everybody else dream ! Switchen gears here and hope to have the time to build a classic muscle car . Just sold my 68 charger project to some good guys in De Soto Mo. A cool dude from North Dakota bought my 340 engine block date coded 9-29-71 because he had some pistons that would fit the .20 over block . Well enough rambelin for now and ooh yea , Webmaster , I think i'll be the webmaster for today and catch up with my garage on another day . My brother came by to help me pallet up the 340 for shipment .Cost me a twelve pack ! This computer can be as frustrating sometimes as building these cars to such high standards ,I do'nt care if we have to take the dash apart 10 times to get it right and then some .It is truly a team effort for sure . Everyone is always ready to pass the build on . But to stand back and take a look at that big block vette or the GTO convertible when they are done is very rewarding but better yet is taking one of them for a spin . Talked to Tim today about doing some burnouts in that beautiful GTO we built . Nothing spared on that build . Stroked up and a Kisler 5 spd . Silver in color , red interior convertable.I had a lot of hrs lining up the nose of that car .Tim said it was the best he'd seen come out of his shop and he's been in business for over 35 yrs . It is a nice ride . Will do a live video feed of that burnout soon on my site .Hell, I gots too go to work my friend .

PS : Take a kid to a car show !

Later on gentleman ,
Grover

Posted by Picasa
As i show you the progress of our 1968 Shelby Cobra 428 KR i thought you might enjoy a look at the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR that is the new “King of the Road” – the most powerful production Mustang ever produced, thanks to a 540-hp supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 with 510 lb.-ft. of torque. -The 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR is the new “King of the Road” – the most powerful production Mustang ever produced, thanks to a 540-hp supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 with 510 lb.-ft. of torque. Sounds like a lot of fun thats for sure .

The Swiss Cheese as it is today being restored to the stock wheelbase .

The trunk and the wheelwells have been put back to stock and now Jimbo replaces the butchered firewall .And soon he'll be welding in a new floor . Heck , i remember building the frame for this many years ago . We had a lot of hours restoring it to the altered wheelbase stage . It's a lot of work seperating all the body pannels and welding them back to stock , but this car deserves it as there is a lot of history behind it ! As i said this is the fastest Swiss Cheese car ever built and the last one built .
Well enough for now and keep checking in to see the progression of this build . Grovis

The Swiss Cheese as it campaigned in the 65 season , start of the funny car era

Here is the catalina as it looked during the 65 season after having the wheel base altered in 64 . It stayed that way untill Tim started the restoration back to stock this year . The complete front end is aluminun and i do'nt even like to work around them . Just a few more pictures as it looked back in the day . You Pontiac guys should keep an eye on this build .This was the beginning of the muscle car era , even before the legendary Pontiac GTO ! Enjoy the pictures of the build ............. Grover

Very rare 1963 Swiss Cheese Super Duty Catalina restoration project !

1963 Swiss Cheese Super Duty Catalina
Very rare restoration project !

A pictoral documentation of the last "Swiss Cheese " ever buit . This pontiac catalina was bought from Bill Blair by Tim as an altered wheelbase car and is being put back to stock at Tim Thorpes' shop . It was the beginning of the funny car era and this was the fastest cheese car built . Ran in the 9.20s i was told . Well here's a little history on the car . I'll be keeping you up to date on the build with a number of pictures.......................Grover

Lifting the 64 corvette body off the frame

Well , stopped by Tims' Shop and they were puling the 64 off the frame so here are some shots of the process . This is kind of a backwards build . We all did the body and interior first the the engine compartment > Well now the gentleman decided to do the frame . I cut and fit the complete one piece front end on this one and set the headlight buckets in .. Cut in a new rear tailight section and maybe a rear finder . I'm not sure about the fender . I'ts been a while . Tim had a couple of buddies stop buy to help him cover the corners of the 64 body . Mike and Bob were a lot of help !Way to go Go Mikey !!
We just made a little body hauler out of a old boat trailor . Works great ! Guys are rolling on this one . Mike and Uncle Pat broke down the frame the next day and when i stopped by yesterday it was alll already sandblasted and being primered ! Geg ,just working from noon had half the grindng on the body done despite faulty equipment . The grinder worked when it wanted to . Mr organisation Mike was already on the parts order and had most of the parts coming . Good job Mikey . Now mikey if you want me to make you a star out in cyber world you have to let me show your setbacks ( F%@# UPs ) HA, HA !
More pictures of this and a couple real special builds coming soon ........................................................Grover

Well here's the 68 Charger my son and i brought home a couple of years ago from Minnesota. We are across the Mississippi river in Lacross Wisconsin moving some of the parts foward into the van and airing up the tires for the long ride back to St. Louis . It rained the whole way back !
This is a real solid car that came out of Georgia . Was a 318 car but i have a 440 ,machine work done , 60 over, freeze plugs and cam bbearings installed ready for some new pistons . Build it the way you want it . Going to sell this project as i need the garage space .
Well some good ole boys from De Soto Mo. bought the 68 Charger !
Hope the have some fun with it.

As we were dropping the bodies the gentleman we are building the big block chevelle for pulled up in the Z28 with the 2002 corvette motor . This is my favorite 1967 Corvette coupe 427 435 hp to come through the shop !

This 67 came through about a year ago .It came in green and we did a frame off and changed the color back to it's orininal lyndale blue in about 4 months time . It was a nice paint job and it was hard to strip as i remember . It's back in to get a few things fixed and another buffing to get it ready for thr Blommington car show at the end of the month . I just always thought this lyndale color with the white stinger hood looked exceptional and the white seats with the contrasting black carpet was just beautiful. Yep, after all the vetts we've built here this is my favorite.Maybe i can find some of the pictures of this car when it was over at the St. Louis car museum last year . They were just beautiful .......................Mopargrovis

The 1970 Chevelle 396 moving along and getting blocked down .wo'nt be long before we see a little color on this one soon . Looks like Tims' getting a little color on the front end of the 48 caddy and maybe it will finally get moved along a little .
